A close-knit cooperatively owned household located in a poor neighborhood
in Kansas City's midtown district. The four founding members had
been together in a non-residential ecumenical faith community
for nearly 20 years before they pooled their resources to buy
this house, with the intent to share their lives in a way that
models living from the heart--an approach that is responsible,
nonviolent, and ecological. Most of the members, originally professionals,
have restructured their careers to reflect that vision, becoming
community organizers/activists, a writer, a community gardens
organizer/educator, and an energy healer. Although their individual
interests and involvements are diverse, they share an interest
in environmental and social activism, Earth spirituality, community
building, non-exclusive relationships, and good communication.
They also put a high value on offering hospitality to a wide network
of friends, activists, and seekers, and of living life out of
love rather than fear.
