('78, CA) 10 Members
An urban collective household with shared meals, chores, expenses, and weekly house meetings. Most evenings there are shared family-style dinners, primarily vegetarian, that provide most of the glue needed to foster an close-knit extended-family feeling. Members also value being very open and direct--talking a lot with each other in a very personal way, about very personal things. Some of this happens at the weekly house meetings, though they aspire to deal with such things on the spot, as they arise. Their old Victorian house is now owned collectively, after two decades of work to understand and jump through the hoops required to make that a legal reality. The members can only be classified politically as independents--although they lean towards working for a better life for all people, not just a favored few. They are avid recyclers, do their best to maintain the planet, and use organic products when feasible.
