A secular, egalitarian, family-style community living on an organic
farm, with shared income & labor. Being small, they have little
need for governing structures, although some work areas have facilitators
or managerships which evolve on the basis of interest, knowledge,
and group trust. Although their lives have some structure, they
try to get along with as few rules as possible, living in cooperation
and with sensitivity. Major decisions are made by consensus, with
others left to individual discretion. How they reach decisions
is often as important to them as what they decide. They grow most
of their own food, and sell value-added farm products (sorghum,
honey, tempeh, horseradish) as a community business. They get
satisfaction from doing things for themselves, whether its making
butter and cheese, repairing old machines, making their own entertainment,
or building their own buildings. They recognize each person's
need for private space and try to be supportive of individual
interests and needs.
